Here is a selection of points made in the numerous objections to this application.
GREEN BELT:
- This area is the last remaining greenbelt area between Colehill and Wimborne Minster, to remove it will create further
urban sprawl resulting from developments around Wimborne Minster.
- NO extenuating circumstances for this land to be developed.
- It is a wildlife haven for many animals, (some protected – such as slow worms, bats and badgers).
- This area has contributed its fair share of land for housing development over the years.
- We have already lost ‘approximately 70% of our Green Belt’ Minutes from Wimborne Town
Council, 19 MARCH 2021.
- This peice of land has been removed from the Local Plan.
- Wimborne Minster Town Council stated that the merging of Wimborne and Colehill and reduction of the Green Belt does not maintain but detracts from ‘rich
historic character.’
ENVIRONMENT:
- ‘Seven Dorset Notable plant species were recorded, two of which are Red Listed as Near Threatened. These species are very localised and generally found in small
quantity, except for Bird’s-foot-trefoil which is frequent. The site is considered to be of moderate to high ecological interest.’ Ecological Survey October 2021
- It is a wildlife haven. Protected species use and live on this site.
- 'A Wildbelt would put nature at the heart of planning and protect land in recovery for nature from development.' - Wildlife Trusts September 2020
- After the ecological surevey - October 2021, the WMC6 site – Leigh Farm was removed from the draft Local Plan.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
- There is no legal definition of 'affordable housing'. In fact, there is no such thing as affordable housing...
- Developers put 50% affordable housing in their outline plans but in reality this number drops dramatically.
- Rivers Edge developments affordable housing starts at £450,000
ACCESS
- There is no access available through the old railway line.
- Birchdale Road is unsuitable for access and is the only one remotely possible.
- Wesley, Cranfield Ave, St John's, Leigh Road and Rowlands Hill would all see a huge increase in traffic on already busy
roads.
- Roads liable to flooding already and can become unusable with heavy snowfall.
